Tell us about your background. Why did you choose Vanderbilt and what influenced your decision?
My name is Kylar Larson and I am from Sherburn, Minnesota. I spent my entire childhood growing up in this small town with my parents, six siblings, and an array of pets. My father is a chiropractor, and my two oldest sisters pursued exercise science. This constant exposure to the health and medical fields expanded my interest in the sciences, leading to my current interest in pursuing a degree in medicine, health, and society. There were many reasons why I chose to attend Vanderbilt: the city, musical opportunities, student body, fields of study and more. However, the factor that may have had the largest influence on my decision was the financial aid package that was offered.
How did Vanderbilt’s financial aid affect your decision to attend?
The financial aid at Vanderbilt significantly influenced my college decision. Compared to other schools that I contemplated attending, none could provide a comprehensive and assistive financial package quite like Vanderbilt. Given my specific financial circumstances, receiving substantial aid was an essential factor for my chosen institution. Mixing the financial support along with the myriad of other opportunities that Vanderbilt presented, the decision to choose this institution became seamlessly evident.
What does a Vanderbilt education mean to you?
A Vanderbilt education shows years of hard work and dedication. Before even attending the school, you must be a committed student and individual to accomplish the feats that help you matriculate to such a university. Then, academically succeeding within Vanderbilt is another task in and of itself. However, a Vanderbilt education means so much more than simply academic success; it represents community, involvement, honesty, and most importantly, fun. Many activities and organizations play a role in my Vanderbilt education, so much so that its definition cannot simply be held to academics.
