New VLS scholarship endowed in honor of J. Michael Campbell ’68 (BE’65)
A $1 million endowed scholarship has been established at Vanderbilt Law School in honor of alumnus J. Michael Campbell ’68 (BE ’65), who celebrated the 25th anniversary of the firm he established on April 1, 1998.
Campbell’s legal career began as a trial defense counsel in the U.S. Marine Corps, with posts in California and Okinawa, Japan. In 1972 he returned to his hometown of Atlanta and began practicing real estate law, but he remained in the reserves until 1989, when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
In 1998 Campbell partnered with Camille Brannon to form the law firm currently known as Campbell & Brannon. Thanks to their successful partnership, Campbell & Brannon now has more than 30 attorneys in 11 offices and serves clients throughout Georgia.
In addition to his military service, Campbell has made significant contributions to the legal community throughout his career. He was president of the Georgia Real Estate Closing Attorneys Association from 1992 to 1995.
He has also made significant contributions to many organizations important to him, including VLS, where he served on the Board of Advisors from 2008 to 2014. He currently serves as a board member of the Performing Arts Center in Highlands, North Carolina.

The J. Michael Campbell Scholarship will be awarded annually beginning with the 2023-24 academic year.
