The Faculty Challenge

faculty members

Through the Faculty Challenge, visionary donors can invest in rising faculty stars at Vanderbilt. This call for philanthropic support—propelled by the university’s investment of $25 million—will help recruit and retain the teachers and scholars who will become the next “legendary” members of our faculty.

Challenge Details

• Through the challenge, eligible donor gifts to establish new endowed Chancellor’s Faculty Fellows, Dean’s Faculty Fellows and Directorships will receive a match.
• The challenge begins September 1, 2018 and will end September 30, 2020.

Why is investing in faculty at all levels important?

Supporting and recognizing mid-career faculty members and senior leaders is a priority for Vanderbilt. These investments help propel cutting-edge research and provide faculty members with the flexibility to pursue new ideas, particularly before they are eligible to receive an endowed chair.

Why now?

As we plan for Vanderbilt’s future, faculty leaders are at the heart of each of our aspirations—from powering discoveries to our living and learning communities. Vanderbilt is deeply committed to bringing, and keeping, the most talented faculty members to campus, which in turn attract other superb faculty and students. The competition for federal funding and declines in research funding also underscore the pressing need for faculty support.
